action;

You know, there's something to be said for drudge work. [His reply is ponderous, tracing a thought he's had before.] In the Circle, they rap your knuckles day and night--part of it is to keep the mages' minds off of acting out, I think. Some like having tasks to keep them occupied. I couldn't worry too much in the beginning about what becoming a Warden meant because the Commander kept me busy. Here there's an abundance of time for your mind to wander. Not that I'm complaining about peace and quiet.

[Shaking his head with a wan smile, Anders seems to reel himself back in after his tangent, but says nothing for a few moments, digesting what Alistair's said with uninterrupted thoughtfulness.

Usually he'd interject with a quip or two--the fact that he's digesting more than he's talking shows Anders just how much he's letting all this time to think work him into a hole. He resents Rutherford and the elf for putting him in this position. And Wonderland, too.]

What if it wasn't something straight-laced and respectable like becoming Warden-Commander? Which would never happen, by the way, the Wardens have better sense than to put me in charge. But what if you found out one of your lookalikes did something terrible or wrong that you know you wouldn't do?

[Anders emits a heavy sigh, shoulders slumping. He can't play the 'what if' game forever.]

Have you met the elf that showed up the other day? He recognized me.

[And the face he pulls, like a child reliving a particularly nasty tongue-lashing from his mother, says it hadn't been in a good "oh hey, nice to see you again" way.]
